Winter Activities! - Blogmas Day 6

Yes, it is late again....Forgive me, please! I was dealing with the annoying Ontario University Application Centre (OUAC) that I'm sure some of you have had the unfortunate ability to experience such a confusing thing when you are no longer a high school student...such a money grab, why does it need to cost so much! Okay okay enough ranting and back to the point...December isn't all about Christmas, especially not for me as the first 8 days are me trying (almost always successfully) to convince my parents not to decorate the house until after my birthday, which was Sunday, and today (Monday) we got the tree and it looks like Christmas exploded on our main level. So to ignore Christmas I occupy myself with a few winter activities! Some requiring snow, some not, so for those that don't get snow or don't have snow yet there's something here for you too!

To begin, I would just like to remind you that I am not a fan of winter...it's cold, it's wet, it's a pain to clean your car off before driving (carefully) extra slow, and it makes my hair frizzy and my skin dry....we just don't get along...so my favourite thing to do in the winter (as stated in a previous post) is reading and drinking hot chocolate by a fire...it's so cozy and WARM..it's just great! And although I don't like it I try not to always stay hidden inside and there are plenty of fun activities that you can't do in the summer! For example....

Hot Air Ballooning...

Because who doesn't want to be at a higher altitude when it's -20? Crazy people obviously! In all seriousness it is probably really pretty....but still!

Or eating a whole pizza..(winter picnic)

Pack on those pounds to help keep you warm and to train for all of those big Christmas dinners when you eat way too much apple pie or cherry cheesecake!

Seriously...it's cold out there people!

Merry Blogmas!

Shopping for the Perfect Gift - Blogmas Day 5

So you got a new boyfriend and you have no idea what to get, you can always get a gift card from Mark's Work Warehouse but where's the thought that we all like to know was put in when we receive a gift? When you are finding it difficult to find someone the perfect gift, get a combination of 3 small gifts; one serious, one a joke, and the last homemade. This way the thought is there and all the pressure isn't all on one. If you are a last minute person such as my self, stick to just the first two and put the effort into writing a genuine Christmas card.

Or go completely away from the material gifts and spend the money on something you both can do together. Spend the weekend at a B&B, go to a concert you will both enjoy, there are endless possibilities and I'm sure in the end it won't matter what you got the person because it truly is the thought that counts...A little cheesy maybe? But you know I'm right.

Merry Blogmas and Happy Shopping!

A Good Book and Some Hot Chocolate - Blogmas Day 4

Who doesn't love a great book, hot chocolate, and sitting next to a warm, wood burning fire? The correct answer is crazy people! So grab a seat next to the fire; if you don't have one go to the lounge of your local inn (I happen to work at one so it's a pretty familiar place), whip up some delicious hot chocolate, and start reading the hours away.

My favourite hot chocolate isn't anything fancy, just simple hot chocolate mix and some steamed milk (usually two packets .... shh) and top with whip cream if you have it or some mini marshmallows....today I had neither but it is still delicious! mmmm chocolaty goodness...

Another option is to go to your local coffee shop (example: Tim Hortons or Coffee Culture) and get one on the go...they are also good but not as delicious as your own..probably haha (Btw this isn't a timmies hot chocolate...just to be clear)
Now onto the great book! These are just a few of my favourites. All but the top one are teen reads or young adult..no judgement as I just re-read the entire Vampire Academy series in two weeks this summer and enjoyed them just as much as the first time around 4 or so years ago. The top book, "The Secret Life of Bees" is probably one of my all time favourites...gotta love English class making you read actual good books. This also happened in grade 11 with "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini and "Left Neglected " by Lisa Genova. All were eye opening with lots to take away by morals of the story.  I haven't been reading a lot lately but the one for the winter months when I will be sitting with the hot chocolate by the fire is "The Girls" by Lori Lansens, a book about the life of two conjoined twins.
If you have any special Hot Chocolate recipes or good books you recommend, please leave it in the comments below! I love trying new things and no one ever can have too many good books!

Christmas Morning Breakfast - Blogmas Day 3

Happy Wednesday! My mom has made this every Christmas morning for as long as I can remember and it is probably one of the best things about Christmas morning...besides the presents of course hahah! I had no idea how to make it and spent 45 minutes searching through my mother's cookbook hoping she had it somewhere...and she did, obviously as I am writing this right now.

Christmas Morning Breakfast Recipe

Prepare this sausage-and-egg dish on Christmas Eve while the kids are setting out the milk and cookies for Santa. Refrigerate it overnight, then pop it into the oven on Christmas morning for a quick and easy holiday breakfast.

INGREDIENTS

12 ounces low-fat, bulk breakfast, sausage (I think my mom just uses normal breakfast sausages so substitute as needed)
3 slices white bread, torn into bite-size pieces
1/2 cup shredded Monterrey Jack cheese
6 eggs
1 cup milk
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese

Step One

Brown the sausage in a skillet over medium heat, stirring to crumble. Remove it from the heat, drain off any fat, and let it cool.

Step Two

Place the bread pieces in the bottom of a 2-quart baking dish lightly coated with cooking spray. Layer the sausage over the bread, then top it with Monterrey Jack cheese.

Step Three

In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, and pepper. Pour the mixture over the contents of the dish, then top with the Cheddar cheese. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.

Step Four

In the morning, heat the oven to 325 degrees. Remove the plastic wrap from the dish and bake the casserole for 40 to 45 minutes or until cooked through. Makes about 6 servings depending on your family's appetite.
For an extra treat, try adding bacon!!!

The Best Christmas DIYs/Inspiration - Blogmas Day 2

Twas 22 nights before Christmas, when all through the houseNot a creature was stirring, only Allie scrolling the Internet for ideas. The stockings were not yet hung by the chimney with care,In hopes that St Nicholas would take his time because I am no where near prepared.

So to help you with all the crazy preparations the holiday season requires I have pulled together a few DIYs! From hot cocoa to decorating the Internet has it all!

Numero Uno!

Ingrid Nilson - missglamorazzi

Beauty, fashion, food, fun! Is this girl's slogan. She is inspiring and full of great ideas and for our viewing pleasure she is doing DIY December. This means, every day of December (excluding Sundays) up until Christmas she will be posting a themed Do It Yourself.

So far she has made a make-up brush holder, S'mores Hot Chocolate, and Christmas cards. Whatever she comes up with next I'm sure will be just as creative!

Zoe Sugg - Zoella

Probably my favourite fashion, beauty, life, Youtuber! Shows that it's okay to be a fashionista girly girl and still kick it back with guy friends. She does fashion and beauty mostly but also a daily vlogger for Vlogmas.

On her main channel she has done a Christmas Bedroom Inspiration video and on her second channel MoreZoella she is participating in Vlogmas. So check both out!

Lauren Conrad - Blog

Lauren is an actress/blogger/tones of other things person! In the link above she shares her New Holiday Collection. For those fashionistas looking for some inspiration for your holiday outfits take a look!

Pinterest

Hello, my name is Allie and I am a Pinterest Addict. For those of you who have no idea what this is, it's basically a way to bookmark websites but in an organised way through pictures. You can create different boards (i.e. Motivation, Recipes, Home Designs, Fashion, etc.).

A little self promoting here... I have created a board labelled Christmas that has a collection of gift wrapping ideas including tags. Pictures are linked to websites with more ideas or how to's. And as I am a pin hoarder there will most definitely be more to come haha

Technically it is now the fourth but I actually had this all typed out yesterday and just realised I didn't post it...oopsy! Hope this eases a little tension or gets the creative holiday juices flowing!

Merry Blogmas!

Tiptoe Through the Tulips of a Magnificent World

This right here is the beginning of what will probably end up being a lengthy list of the places I want to not only visit but experience, dive into the culture and indulge myself in everything that part of the world has to offer. I have been travelling for as long as I can remember going once a year on a family adventure to mainly different areas in USA but also the Caribbean, I've had the wonderful opportunity to go on a school trip to England, Belgium, and France, and of course to various areas of Canada from east to west coasts. In a previous post I shared a bit about my trip to Aruba this past summer and will hopefully be posting another bit about the trip to France and Italy in March 2014. But enough rambling here it is!

1. Paris, France

This will always be at the top of the list no matter how many times I go; been there and returning, et je l'adore!

2. Valencia, Spain

I watch a lot of House Hunters International on HGTV and this was one of the places the couple was moving to, and just a gorgeous place. Also the site of the City of Arts and Sciences which is just really awesome!

3. California

San Fransisco, Los Angeles, etc. Beaches, fantastic weather, what's not to like?

4. Salzburg, Austria

Home of the von Trapp family in The Sound of Music, one of my favourite movies. One word, magnificent.

5. Egypt

One of the Seven Wonders of the World, the pyramids.

6. New Orleans, USA

Big fan of Vampire Diaries but even bigger fan of the spin off The Originals which is set in New Orleans. Love the vibe, the jazz, and the parties.

7. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Amazing architecture, including Christ the Redeemer Statue.

8. Barcelona, Spain

Seems vibrant and lively and like pretty much anywhere in Spain has mesmerizing architecture.

9. Bali, Indonesia

Referred to as "The Paradise Island" because of the tropical paradise of untold beautiful nature, idyllic mood and never ending fascination. Seems like one of the best places to learn about the self and reflection; grounding yourself.

10. India

Probably one of the most culture shocking places I want to visit. Also one of the Seven Wonders of the World with the Taj Mahal in Agra.

These are just my top 10 so there are so many other places I am dreaming to go to. If you have been to any of these places let me know if there's anything I definitely need to see or do while I'm there and what are some other countries I should add to my list! :)

Aruba, Jamaica ooo I wanna Take Ya...

This summer has been one of the best so far! African Lion Safari, Imagine Dragons and Bruno Mars concerts, my Aunt's wedding, beach days, lazy days and much more but one of the greatest parts was going to Aruba. I love summer, I love the heat and I love travelling...what better way to put all three together and take a trip to a Caribbean island?

I'm not the greatest photographer but it was hard not to get an amazing shot with the beauty of the mesmerizing island.

This was a 7 day trip that was definitely not long enough..but what vacation ever is? hahah We stayed at the Costa Linda which I highly recommend. Unfortunately, it is only open for time share or if you own one of the suites. They have pool with two hot tubs, beach with chairs and tiki huts provided for you to use whenever you'd like, a giant chess/checkers set (Sad I didn't get a picture of it, it was a lot of fun). Being the girly girl I am, I look advantage of their spa and got my nails done which has lasted for ever!

If you do decide to take a trip to Aruba or anywhere else in the Caribbean, do NOT forget sunscreen! I am quite proud of myself that I didn't get burnt, well at least not where I could help.. I had to buy a hat to keep my head from getting burnt. Do not sit out in the sun for more than 20 minutes without any sort of protection from the sun, you can literally feel yourself crisping. Also, if you plan on spending a lot of time on the beach take advantage of the Happy Hour at the bar...2 for 1 drinks are the best and a good way to keep you hydrated..or not if its alcoholic but still delicious either way!

As said before travelling is one of my favourite things ever. I love experiencing new sights and cultures. The food in Aruba is pretty similar to here in Canada so I didn't get to try many new things but what we did have was scrumptious! If the only thing I could accomplish in life was the travel the world, I would forever be in a blissful state of happiness.

Travel is rebellion in its truest form
We follow our heart
We free ourselves of labels
We loose control willingly
We trade a role for reality
We love the unfamiliar
We trust strangers
We own only what we carry
We search for better questions, not answers
We truly graduate

We sometimes choose to never come back

How to Survive Your Best Friend Leaving for University

It's currently the time when students are getting ready for school and leaving for college and university but what do you do when you're not one of them? What do you do when it's your best friend, the person you have known since you were little and barely been separated for more than a couple days, leaving for the first time? It's difficult to even fathom what it will be like without them before it happens. This time is especially troubling when you yourself are going nowhere and with nothing so much as a plan for what to eat for dinner. So if you, or someone you know is having trouble coping with this, here are a few tips.

1. Keep Busy By Cleaning Your Room

This is probably one of the least exciting things that you could do but hey you may find some cool stuff and it will also make you feel rejuvenated by rearranging furniture. Like a fresh start.

2. Learn How To Cook

Pinterest is one of my favourite places to find new things, from recipes to fashion to decorating your dream home. There is an endless supply of ideas and DIYs to keep you busy.

3. Start A Blog

Doing something you enjoy will make time between visits go by much quicker. Starting a blog is just one of the many things I have on my list to try out this year. Find a hobby or 2 and throw yourself into it. If you aren't having a good time then pick something else. No one's going to keep you from changing your mind. It's your time, do with it what you want...safely of course :)

4. Visit

As long as your best friend won't hate you for coming (which hopefully wouldn't be a problem if you really are that close) then go right ahead! Just remember that you are just saying goodbye to them and maybe a couple others but they are moving to a whole new place with very few people they know. Coming from a small town where you know everyone it seems hard to imagine going to a new place and knowing...eh maybe 5 people. A couple from your high school, a couple just from around town, and a couple you met on the Facebook freshmen pages. The move is going to be more challenging for them than it will be for you (In most cases).

If you're like me and are just hanging around for the year you will soon know just what it's like to be on the other side. So try not to fret and use the time you can to visit, it will be good for both of you.

I hope these few things will help to make your transition at least a little bit easier. If you have any good ideas I'd love to give them a try, just leave them in the comments below! :)

One Year, One Girl, One Big, Fat Question Mark..

This weekend marks the beginning of my Gap Year! Next year is when life begins (figuratively speaking of course) and I go off to University and get out of this small town. But for now the only plans I have is work... work, work, and more work. Making money will be awesome, especially with my lovely shopping addiction I have acquired over the past few years... oops.. but this blog I'm hoping will give me something to do. Maybe I'll share my GRAND adventures or equally as exciting shopping hauls or maybe this will be just somewhere to share the craziness that seems to be taking over my mind. Whatever this turns into, maybe even nothing at all and this will be my only post, it will be about me.

Speaking of me maybe I should start off with giving a few tid bits of information about me.
  1. My name is Alexandra but I go by Allie
  2. My nickname is Alison which confuses people all the time..
  3. I'm currently 17 but turning 18 in December
  4. I have 3 cats (Demon, Skittles, and Jazz)
  5. I have a mild shopping addiction as stated above..once again..oops
  6. I have 3 awesome best friends whom I have been close to since grade 5
  7. I have a younger brother named Kurtis
  8. I live in a town of about 6000 which has nothing to do
  9. I love to travel and hope to be doing some travelling throughout this year
  10. My bedroom is Paris themed
  11. I've seen Enrique Iglesias in concert...twice
  12. MAJOR procrastinator...like next day due don't start writing until 2am kind of procrastination
  13. I'm a bit of a weirdo but hey normal is boring!
  14. I think running has no use unless you are running away from something (Yet I just started running so kind of contradicting myself but oh well)
  15.  I have a thing for elephants

So that's all I'm going to say right now but I am sure there will be more lists as lists are my best friend..same with food... I also get distracted quite easily.....squirrel <_< .... not that bad...usually.

But anyway..here goes nothing!
